It's the Stupid Stanfurd Daily, Stupid!

This is getting even better. Not only does Stanfurd suck to the point of losing to UC Davis, but the Stanfurd Daily has completely ignored the loss!

Stanfurd Daily buries loss

The Stanfurd Daily came back Wednesday from a three-week hiatus. As students prepared for the fall semester, they were greeted with the shocking headline:

"Harris logs a win over Navy in season opener"

Next to that bold headline in the paper, and the second item in the online version, was that other game. Geez, and people have the nerve to say Stanfurd students are shielded from life's harsh realities.

Upset a national story

We jest. But the scope of this upset, explained eloquently by our Jon Wilner in Thursday's paper, continues to grow. Thursday's Los Angeles Times carried an editorial about it -- not a sports column, either, but a piece right next to the ones on immigration reform and the Federal Reserve's response to Hurricane Katrina.

Wonder who's the Davis alum on the editorial board?

"No matter how tough the odds, those who want something badly enough have a chance to attain it," the Times concluded, clearly unfamiliar with the BCS.

• "That was not just the worst loss in the history of Stanfurd's program, that was the worst loss in the history of anybody's program. It was possibly the greatest upset in the history of college football," Jim Rome said on ESPN.

Biggest upset? Nah. That would be Oregon State, three years after Dennis Erickson left, still not being on NCAA probation.

• Stanfurd ranked: The Cardinal made ESPN.com's Bottom 10.

• UC-Davis ranked: In Division I-AA, still among others receiving votes, which might be the greatest indictment of the Cardinal.

• Looking on the bright side, Stanfurd engineering professor Jeff Koseff thinks the Cardinal can go on to beat UCLA and Cal, "and Davis can lay claim to being the champion of the UC system."

Oh yeah, that's totally gonna happen. Need I even draw the conclusions about Stanfurd Engineering being in the shadow of Berkeley engineering? Oops, I did it again. Need I rub salt into the wound by mentioning that certain silicon valley employers view the Stanfurd Masters to be equivalent to the Berkeley Bachelors? Nice job Stanfurd, yet again. Perhaps you should have an Engineering Beat in the Stanfurd Daily?

We should have an O/U for the point spread of Big Game. You like that? Betting on the betting? I'll say Cal -36.5 as of today. Ok shit, that's confusing, especially since taking the Over means you think Cal won't win as big. Let's go with Stanfurd +36.5, does that work? Yeah, OK the over means a bigger spread.

We should run a sportsbook/racebook out of the SHoP. Then I don't need to go to bodog.com anymore.
