It's the Mathematical Improbabilities, Stupid!

My Giants are still only 4 games back with 7 to play, including a 4 game series with NL West "leading" San Diego. Our magic number is 12 with 7 left to play. Possible, but highly improbable. Theirs is 4. So, with two padres wins in San Diego between now and Thursday, the Friars will clinch in front of the G-men. Their magic number is 4.

What would be funny is if the Giants swept the Padres, pulling us both even going into the final series, and then we both get swept. We'd both be 77-85 and have one tiebreaker to decide who would go to the playoffs at 78-85. Heh.

If the Giants make it, I'm buying a 2005 NL West Champions t-shirt, to go along with my 2002 NL Wild Card t-shirt.
